Advertisements can be sent in the global living player chat by typing /advert, and must follow certain standards. Failure to follow Rule 2.10 may cause a player’s /advert message to be removed, and repeated infractions can result in a temporary /advert blacklist.

" ...Adverts are to be formatted realistically, akin to ads found in newspapers or news headlines. Use them for advertising businesses, broadcasting news or buying/selling items or services."
When threatening the mayor through adverts, an appeal to the mayor to lower the taxes must be made via a realistic headline in order to follow Rule 3.12 Mayoral Assassination. Direct threats to the mayor’s life should not be made in adverts, since character names are linked to adverts, and advertisers can be warranted and arrested for Law 10.1 Causing Harassment, Alarm, or Distress. Following a player/group's advert, a genuine attempt to let the mayor fix their policies must be made - generally at least 5 minutes should pass, and the mayor should show clear disregard of the citizens' concerns before action is carried out.

Players on a job can use /advert to advertise their services. It should look like a standard advertisement that might be seen in a newspaper, and hopefully includes some relevant information explaining how to hire the service.
