Mayoral Assassination

Mayoral assassinations require careful consideration and adherence to server rules. This guide outlines the circumstances under which such actions may be justified under Rule 3.12.

When can I assassinate the Mayor?

The mayor may be assassinated if:

  1. There is a direct benefit to you or your acquaintances. For example, if the Mayor activates policies that strengthen the Police, or make criminal activity more difficult through house alarms or a frequently moving drug dealer, one might consider killing the Mayor. Crafters or players looking to buy weapons and materials for them in bulk might want to kill the Mayor for setting unreasonably high sales taxes (e.g., 20%).

  2. The Mayor has negatively impacted you or your acquaintances in a severe or personal way. Examples include discriminatory behavior, or implementing policies that directly harm your interests, as well as any reason you might kill another player for under 2.5. For instance, should the Mayor go above and beyond to work with the Police to prove your guilt in a crime or used their authority to harm you in another way.

There are many ways a Mayor might harm a player or their interests. Below are the examples lifted from rule 3.12 Mayoral Assassination:

  • Failing to adhere to promises regarding city management & tax policy
  • Discriminatory conduct towards diverse groups of people
  • Any instance in which it would be justifiable to kill another player according to rule 2.5
  • Implementing a combination of detrimental policies that directly harm players' interests

Steps to take before attempting assassination

  1. Review City Policies:
Check the current tax rates and policies in the “City Info” application on your phone (Z key → "City Finances"). The default sales tax rate is 10%. If the mayor sets an unreasonably high rate (e.g., 20%), this could justify assassination if it significantly benefits you.

  2. Attempt Resolution:
Before escalating, issue a warning to the mayor. Use the /advert function or speak to them directly or over the phone, requesting changes to harmful policies. For instance, ask them to lower excessive taxes or remove policies that are detrimental to your goals.

  3. Allow Reasonable Time:
Ensure the mayor has enough time to respond to your warnings before taking further action. Acting prematurely without giving them a chance to comply will likely violate server rules.
